CARD: Introducing Wooden Cascading Cards

To start of the first blog entry on cards this 2011, we bring you one of our own favourite kind of card, CASCADING CARD. There are different kinds of cascading cards when you Google them, you see the flat cascading card that are made entirely of paper, you can find cascading cards that has pop up effects or even cascading cards that looks like pocket drawers, able to slot in and out of pockets.

We're gonna start of with something simple, a normal cascading card. Not done using paper, but based on wooden blocks. These can be easily bought of the shelves in art stores. I bought this set of cascading wooden block from Spotlight, a store in Plaza Singapura.

These wooden blocks are not not rough, but it isn't very nicely smooth either, you can choose to paint it, lacquer it or just paste paper over it like what I did. Whether to post on one side or on both sides is really your choice. It'd be good to plan and have in my how you want to decor it before plunging into decorating. (: For better contrast, opt for different colours on different levels or alternate levels so that the various levels stands out. For example pink-red-pink, or orange-black-orange, light blue-dark blue-light blue.

This is how it'd look like when you stake them together. Some boards come with ready made holes by the edge, while some does not. Pick one that already has pre-made holes to save you the trouble of 'drilling' holes through it, but if you prefer more freedom on where you want the holes to be at, then get those without holes readily available. You can choose to use normal ring binders, wires, ribbons and anything up to your imagination to tie up the layers. (: I used ribbons for mine.
