If you aren't confident you'll want to avoid overly flowey, colourful and filled paper, if you intend to decorate them. Like the one of the right =>
#1. Use only colours and designs you are confident of using.
#2. Try to match papers, letterings and other materials before buying them.
#3. Buy paper with the occasion/card receiver in mind.
As there just won't be any spaces left for you anymore to decorate. (If you've bought, no worries, check back again for our post on how to use those kind of papers.)
Always try to give your card a theme, be it a festive theme, colour theme or simple themes like "stripes" to more abstract themes like "forever love". It'll help you when it comes to what kind of paper to choose, lettering and even materials to choose!
Glue? I'd prefer to use PVA or water glue for normal materials, but be sure not to put too big a portion, or you'll just end up staining the paper and your decoration in the end. For those who prefers glue stick/gum or white glue, it works just as well as long as the surface is flat, just avoid those kids safe glue sticks, doesn't seem to work as well. (= As for other things, I prefer the super glue! ^^ Small amount, great strength!
Scissors! Scissors too?!?! Haha! Let's just term them as cutters, people may have encouraged you to get professional paper cutters and probably even an entire series of easy cutters (those that have various fancy blades), those are also feasible. But so far, I've been doing well with just one pair of scissors and a penknife. (: Not forgetting a ruler for those straight lines.
These should help you to be equipped for that first card you've been eggcited to start with! (= Before you decide get more 'advanced' tools and materials.
Doodle away~
